Perkins 1103A-33TG1: A 50 kVA Diesel Engine Base for Your Fleet

New Perkins 1103A-33TG1 engine rated 50 kVA standby, 45 kVA prime, 3.3 litre, turbocharged, 1500 rpm. What it means for rental and industrial buyers.

When a business buys a generator set, the alternator and the enclosure get most of the attention, but the engine is the part that decides how the machine behaves on site. The new Perkins 1103A-33TG1 offered as GEC-50571 is a compact, three-cylinder diesel unit rated at 50 kVA standby (46.5 kW) and 45 kVA prime, running at 1500 rpm with 400 V, 50 Hz, three-phase output.

Engine configuration

The 1103A series is built around a 3.3 litre vertical in-line block with three cylinders, turbocharged and water cooled, using direct fuel injection. Fuel is metered precisely and combustion is clean, which helps fuel consumption hold at 7.98 L/h at 75% load — a figure that matters directly to operating cost.

Speed control is handled by a combination mechanical and electronic governor. In practice this means the engine holds its frequency steady under changing load, useful where sensitive equipment or a shared supply is involved. The dry air cleaner keeps intake dust out of the cylinder, and the water-cooled radiator with fan keeps the block at a stable working temperature in hot climates and at high ambient loads.

Where a 50 kVA standby rating fits

Fifty kilovolt-amperes is a widely used working point for standby power. Typical applications include:

  • Construction and contracting sites powering tools, site offices and lighting.
  • Rental companies supplying mid-size sets for events, temporary installations and mobile power.
  • Industrial facilities covering essential circuits during mains failures.
  • Agriculture supporting irrigation pumps, barns and processing equipment.
  • Data centres and telecom sites covering auxiliary and backup loads rather than full facility supply.

The prime rating of 45 kVA indicates continuous-duty capability at a lower output, giving operators flexibility between peak standby events and longer running periods.

Practical build features

Starting is provided by a 12 V, 3 kW starter, and the engine carries an oil capacity of 8.3 litres, which supports sensible service intervals in the field. Overall machine weight is 420 kg with dimensions of 1049 x 634 x 951 mm, and the set is supplied in a silent enclosure, measured at 88 dB(A) at 7 metres — helpful for urban and semi-urban installations.

Delivery and support

Every machine leaving Generator Export Center is tested in our own workshop before shipment, so the unit is verified under running conditions rather than only checked over.
